Dheeraj Gayaram

Dheeraj Gayaram (born in Georgetown, Guyana) is an international dance. He started dancing at the age of 9. It was at that age that he won his first prize in both classical and pop dancing. For the next five consecutive years, he won first prize in both classical and pop dancing competitions at the Maha Sabha Deepavali competitions.

In 1986, Dheeraj became the Guyana Police Force dancer representing Guyana locally and internationally. In 1988, he studied Khatak and Orissi dances from Guru Tirath Ajmani and Reva Ajmani. From 1982 to 1988, Dheeraj held the disco dancing champion title.

In 1989, just two weeks after Dheerajís migration to New York, he won first prize in both classical and pop dancing competitions. He also won the first ever Naya Andaz Dance Competition and is the first and only West Indian to win this award. Dheeraj has performed in over 5000 shows locally and internationally and has won over 150 dancing competitions.

Dheeraj has toured with famous bollywood stars and has his own dance school, GHUNGROOS in Queens. The school has been in existence from since 1994 and he teaches Kathak, Orissi, Folk, Filmi, Bhangra and Chutney.

The popular television program, DNA TV, is produced and directed by Dheeraj. For the past two consecutive years now, Dheeraj has been awarded the No. 1 dancer award This is another award to be added to the numerous awards and medals that he has received for dancing from dignitaries from several countries. He has performed at the Bollywood Awards™ held at Nassau Collosium New York, and was featured in the Times™ magazine. Also he has toured with Asha Bhosle, peformed in Trinidad for the Chutney-Soca Monarch competition and he continues to tour throught the world with his talented dance troupe.

Dheeraj classes are designed to make dancing fun for all ages. In that one session of class, he teaches a variety of dances forms, from classical to Bhangra and Chutney. He is also the promoter of the mega stars shows, International Chutney/Chutney-Soca Monarch signing competition, Ms. Indian Heritage Pagent Shows and several local shows held here in New York and Internationally. He now offers dancersize classes where you can dance, lose weight & tone your body at the same time.
